Choosing a good real estate agency

realAs a current home owner or perhaps someone looking to get on the property ladder you’ll know how important it is to choose a good real estate agency. It can literally mean the difference between getting the property you want and also saving 10’s of thousands of dollars in fee’s. You may be thinking to yourself well I can do this myself and just list my property or search online for a great deal.

Our advice would be not to do this, Real estate agents are professionals who have been in the industry for a long time and it means they know how to navigate all of the pitfalls you may encounter which could end up making a big dent in your wallet. Further more they will have a black book of contacts which will give you access to some of the best investors in the market and they’ll be able to help you sell your house a lot quicker.

How to choose a good real estate agent:

Talk to previous owners/renters – A great way to determine whether a real estate agent is doing their job correctly is to chat to some of their previous clients. These can either be home owners or renters; they will be able to give you inside knowledge on how the estate agent handled their previous transactions.

Check their paperwork – All good estate agents will be registered and bonded with the correct authorities and they should have no problem showing you this paperwork when asked to do so.

Select and agent with the correct credentials : Here is a list of a few of the credentials that the estate agent should have:

CRS (Certified Residential Specialist): Completed additional training in handling residential real estate.

ABR (Accredited Buyer’s Representative): Completed additional education in representing buyers in transactions.

SRES (Seniors Real Estate Specialist): Completed training aimed at helping buyers and sellers in the 50-plus age range.
